I have now been to Bordeaux quite a few times and would like to recommend that you browse this page for information: Lost in Bordeaux. For those interested in wine, the website has a list of wineries that you can visit by Public transit. So far, I have visited Marquis de Terme, in Margaux, Pape Clemente in Leognan-Pessac, and Chateau Tailland. Be sure to download the TBM app for transit in Bordeaux. TBM APP
Note: For a decent 3* hotel in a great location, check out the Quality Inn on/near Rue St. Catherine.
Be sure to read some reviews on TripAdvisor and Yelp to see if my suggestions suit you:
Coffee:
Black List (super fast internet!!). Good coffee.
Cafe Eriu
Sip
Cafeincup
Banana (Gluten Free!)
Alchimiste
La Pelle (Chartrons)
Wine Bars, My favorites were:
Vins Urbains (no longer in business) and
Le Vertige
La Bande de Roro, formerly Les Bistrot des Frerots: Very locals wine bar, great Charcuterie plate, see photo. Top recommendation!
Also liked the wine bar at the school of wine, Le Bar a Vin CIVB, but they only sell full glass no tasting, very reasonable prices. Update: Tonight they were willing to do half glasses and a proper tasting, guess it depends on the mood. Good wine, very frustrating place.
For some really high end stuff try Le Millesime, but the high end stuff is pricey.
Les Trois Pinardiers
Aux Quatre Coins du Vin
Bordeaux Max has a few higher end and lets you taste.
Restaurants:
Didn’t find anything I’m crazy about, but had 2 very nice lunches at La Rotisserie St. Michel. Great roast chicken.
Good crepe at Parentheses
Marche Bacalan near the Cite du Vin is great place for lunch, lots of choices. Big covered market food hall.
Brasserie Bordelaise was nice with a good bar to sit at.
Le Bistro D’Auerlie did a nice job.
Chez Meme was creative and good.
La Cabane Cent Une: Oysters in Chartrons
I did the half day St. Emilion Electric bike tour with Rustic Vines. It was very enjoyable, although getting to St. Emilion is a bit of a hassle because the track are being worked on , so you need to switch to a bus at Libourne. Be sure to buy a round trip so that you can get back as the Station there is unattended.
You can buy yourself a Bordeaux CityPass (buy at tourism info center) if you want to go to museums and other sites as well as big bus tour, includes transit, but pricey. Or, buy yourself a 7 day transit pass for 13.75 euros.
One more note: Avoid visiting on Sundays and Mondays if you can, all kinds of things are closed on these days.

Small Charcuterie plate at Bistro Frerots.
Tasting at Bar a Vin CIVB
Tasting at Vins Urbains.
